When looking at the possible opponents for the 49ers on Jan. 12--the Packers, the Seahawks and the Redskins--an interesting statistic jumped out at me.
Of the three teams, the one that has had the most difficulty winning on the road in the Pacific (including Arizona where the time zone changes during season) Time zone is the Seattle Seahawks.
Turns out the Packers have won four of their last five regular season games on the West Coast and the one loss was well...a little questionable. You definitely remember. It was a Monday night encounter with the Seahawks in Seattle. They also lost in another memorable game in the playoffs 51-45 in OT to Arizona in 2010.
Finally the Redskins haven’t spent much time out on the West Coast lately. Since 2010, they've had only one trip out west, beating the Seahawks in 2011. Before that they were 2-2 in 2008 & 2009 combined in the Pacific Time Zone. Their last trip to Candlestick was a 27-24 loss in 2008.
One more thing to factor in when discussing possible 49ers opponents. By Saturday or Sunday night at the latest, we will know which team will be visiting our fine city. I'm Guessing they won’t know or care much about the above numbers but interesting that of the three possible opponents, the Seahawks who have had the most experience involving the most current players is the team with the worst West Coast road record.
