Josh Reddick hit .242 with 32 home runs and 85 RBI in 2012.

PHOENIX -- Now a proud father, Scott Sizemore is back with the team. His wife Brooke gave birth to their first child Layla on Saturday. It's amazing how different this spring will be for him. Last year at this time he was undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL that forced him to miss the 2012 season. Now he's beaming as a first-time dad and ready to get back out onto the field.

"It's been a difficult year for him, he had big plans last year," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "Based on what he did for us in the little more than a year and a half the year before. Knocked in 50 runs, was really settled into third base, was finally comfortable coming into spring training and all of a sudden that happens to him. Now you have to rehab and that's difficult. He's put himself in position physically where he's ready to go."

Sizemore hit .249 with 11 homers and 52 RBI in just 93 games in 2012. He did it while converting from second base to third. Now he will get to focus on his natural position -- and his family.

Nakajimania

Japanese star Hiro Nakajima took ground balls on Sunday and did some live hitting. He had a pretty massive following that included -- at times -- Melvin.

"I watched him, I didn't hear him very well because every time he did something I heard cameras clicking and all sorts of outside noise," Melvin said. "There was a spotlight on him yesterday and what I took from that was that he's very comfortable in the spotlight."

As I noted yesterday, Nakajima made all of his throws accurately and his arm strength looked pretty good.

"Everything that we've seen has been a very nice surprise," Melvin said. "He's got plenty of arm from what I've seen. Moves around side to side very well. Good first impression."

Nakajima was a three-time Gold Glove-winner in Japan.

Say Cheese!

It was team photo day on Monday. Josh Reddick walked around with a replica WWE Championship belt that was given to him by Triple-H. When asked who on the A's had the best photo, he broke into a WWE-style response.

"I've already won," he said. "Theres no negotiation in that."

Josh Donaldson took a more refined approach to his photo sessions. He seemed proud to rely solely on his natural looks.

"I don't use props," Donaldson said. "You don't become a model by using props."

"He's in love with him self a little bit," Reddick retorted.

It was a light-hearted day at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Photo day is fun because it gives you the first glimpse of what some of the new guys will look like in their real baseball uniform. They only wear workout uniforms in spring training.
