Brent Burns registered 37 points in 81 games last season.

SAN JOSE – The Sharks made a number of roster moves, including activating defenseman Brent Burns from injured reserve, prior to Saturday’s game with Phoenix.

Burns made his season debut after missing all of training camp and the first 10 games with a lower body injury. He had sports hernia/groin surgery last May, but had been medically cleared by the club in October. Burns was paired with Brad Stuart, while Dan Boyle and Marc-Edouard Vlasic rounded out the top four. Jason Demers and Justin Braun were also active.

Defenseman Matt Irwin was reassigned to Worcester, freeing up the roster spot for Burns. Defenseman Nick Petrecki was placed on waivers, and will be reassigned to Worcester if another club does not claim him by Sunday.

In nine games with the Sharks, Irwin, 25, had a goal and an assist for two points and two penalty minutes while averaging 18:42 of ice time. Petrecki, a former first round pick in 2007, played in one game on Jan. 29 vs. Anaheim, going scoreless.

Douglas Murray was a healthy scratch against the Coyotes, missing his first game of the season.
