Clowe appeared to leave the bench to engage the Blackhawks’ Andrew Shaw, after Shaw hit Joe Pavelski with a dangerous check from behind. Clowe was issued a minor for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct at 19:51, while Shaw got two minutes for boarding Pavelski.
Clowe could face a suspension of as many as 10 games and the Sharks fined $10,000 if it's determined he left the bench illegally. If the league views it as Clowe was coming on the ice for a line change, the punishment would be less severe.
Clowe, who has six assists but no goals in 16 games, was not be made available to the media on Saturday in Dallas, where the Sharks wrap up their six-game road swing against the Stars.
As for Pavelski, he spoke about the hit from Shaw before the game against the Stars.
“I escaped feeling fairly healthy from it, and that’s all I guess you can ask for in a situation like that," Pavelski said. "It’s past, it’s last night, and we’ve got to move forward.”
As for Clowe's situation, Pavelski said: “He’s always been a good teammate. I don’t exactly know that happened, or whatever. That’s not for us to decide what the deal is with that.”
