NASHVILLE - Scott Gomez and Brent Burns were surprise scratches for the Sharks' game in Nashville on Tuesday, for reasons yet to be revealed by the team. The Sharks recalled Worcester leading scorer Tim Kennedy and placed center Andrew Desjardins on injured reserve.
Burns recently returned from a lower body injury that kept him out for the first 10 games, going scoreless with four penalty minutes in two games. Gomez signed a one-year deal as an unrestricted free agent on Jan. 23, and has two assists and four penalty minutes in nine games.
Kennedy, wearing uniform #46, was active for the Sharks’ game against Nashville, skating on the wing with Logan Couture and Ryane Clowe.
Kennedy is averaging a point-per-game in the AHL, with 13 goals and 24 assists in 37 games with the Worcester Sharks. He missed nine games in January with an injury, preventing him from attending training camp in January. Kennedy signed a one-year contract with the Sharks on Jan. 23 after starting the season on a minor league deal.
In parts of four NHL seasons with Buffalo and Florida, Kennedy has 29 points (11g, 18a) in 112 career regular season games.
Desjardins has missed the last two games with what the team was calling the flu. He is not expected to be out long term. In 10 games this season, Desjardins has one assist and 36 penalty minutes.
