ST. LOUIS – The Sharks have placed forward James Sheppard on injured reserve with a lower body injury and recalled forward Matt Pelech from Worcester. Pelech joined the team in St. Louis on Monday, as the Sharks face the Blues on Tuesday night.

Sheppard was hurt in practice on Thursday in Chicago. He appeared on the ice Friday morning, but quickly retreated to the locker room and was subsequently ruled out of the game against the Blackhawks by head coach Todd McLellan. Sheppard’s injury is not believed to be related to his major knee injury that forced him to miss two complete NHL seasons. There was no immediate timeframe for his return.

Pelech played in one game with the Sharks on Feb. 11 in Columbus, and fought with the Blue Jackets’ Jared Boll in the first period. He was scoreless in 11 minutes of ice time.
