Keep an eye on…

Sharks: Ryane Clowe. The Sharks winger has yet to record his first goal this season, but had multiple chances in the loss to Phoenix on Saturday, recording seven shots on goal. Clowe has been skating recently on the Sharks’ top line with Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski, and has been one of the few Sharks forwards that looks hungry around the net lately.

Blue Jackets: James Wisniewski. The Blue Jackets welcomed the defenseman back into the lineup on Sunday after he missed a week with a concussion suffered on Feb. 2. Wisniewski played a role in both of Edmonton’s first two goals, though, and will be looking for a better outing against San Jose.

Last game

Sharks: The Sharks and Coyotes played to a scoreless tie through overtime, before San Jose succumbed in a shootout on Saturday at HP Pavilion. It was the Sharks’ fourth straight loss (0-2-2), and San Jose has not won a game in regulation in its last six (2-2-2). Antti Niemi recorded his first shutout with 21 saves, but took the loss to Phoenix’s Mike Smith, who made 33 saves.

Blue Jackets: Columbus hosted Edmonton on Sunday night, losing 3-1. R.J. Umberger had Columbus’ only goal, as the Blue Jackets fired 40 shots on Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk. Sergei Bobrovsky made just 11 saves in the loss, and the Blue Jackets finished 0-for-7 on the power play.

Injuries

Sharks: Andrew Desjardins is out (flu).

Blue Jackets: Ryan Murray (shoulder), Cam Atkinson (lower body) and Adrian Aucoin (lower body) are on injured reserve. John Moore missed Sunday’s game against Edmonton (undisclosed).

Season series

This is the first of three meetings. The Sharks return to Columbus on April 9, while the Jackets visit San Jose on April 21.

Quoteable

“Usually we’re at about game 50 and you’re worn out, but we shouldn’t be worn out. The good thing about this trip is we’ll split it up into two – we’ll actually come home after the [first] Chicago game, and spend some days here, which I think is going to be healthy for our team. We’re going to play some very good hockey clubs, and we’ll be pushed and tested.” – Todd McLellan, on the Sharks’ road trip
