The first two dates on the Sharks’ shortened schedule appear to be locked in.

San Jose will open the 48-game season on Jan. 20 in Calgary against the Flames, and visit the Edmonton Oilers the next night. The game in Calgary is consistent with what sources have told, while John Shannon of Sportsnet in Canada tweeted about the game in Edmonton.

There was a belief that the NHL was going to try and get every team to play on Jan. 19, but in a schedule featuring only conference play (15 teams apiece), that's an impossibility. The Sharks appear to be the odd team out in the West. The Flames visit the Oilers on Saturday, Jan. 19, according to several reports.

The Sharks were 2-1-1 against Calgary last season, and 1-0-1 at the Saddledome. They were 2-0-2 against Edmonton, including a 1-0-1 mark at Rexall Place.

The Sharks’ home opener is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 24th, but that can still change.

The full schedule will be released within the next few days, while training camps are still tentatively scheduled to open on Sunday. In the meantime, the Sharks will continue skating on their own, with no coaches, at Sharks Ice.
