Sacramento Kings unveil new team logos

SACRAMENTO -- Everything is new in Sacramento. From the arena to the coaching staff, the 2016-17 season is a year of rebirth for a franchise in desperate need of a facelift.

On Tuesday morning, the Kings confirmed that the logos leaked to the media this weekend are in fact the new look that the team will wear to open their new arena -- the Golden 1 Center. The five new designs are a change from the logo that carried the team from 1994-present.

The primary logo is an updated version of the logo that the team switched to for the 1971-72 season when they were still the Royals. There have been subtle changes that reflect both the name change to the Kings and the city name as the franchise moved from Cincinnati to Kansas City and eventually to Sacramento.

After plenty of discussions and focus groups, the team will stick with their primary color of purple moving into the new building. The latest version of the logo is purple with grey, a move away from the current purple and black scheme that we have seen for more than two decades.
