Kerr: ‘Bizarre' how fast Warriors open preseason schedule

OAKLAND – Six hours of practice may not be enough for a team with six new faces, but it will have to do for the Warriors.

The Western Conference champions opened training camp on Tuesday and left Oakland Friday afternoon for Vancouver, B.C., where on Saturday they will take the court for the first of seven exhibition games.

“I’ve never seen an exhibition game come four days after the start of camp,” coach Steve Kerr said. “That’s bizarre.”

This cold reality means prize free agent Kevin Durant will make his first “competitive” appearance with his new teammates at Rogers Arena against the Toronto Raptors. Tipoff is at 4:30 PDT.

“I definitely want to play the games,” Durant said. “Love to play the games and be in front of the greatest fans. Playing with these guys, I’m looking forward to it.

“But at the same time, we would like some extra practice time to get acclimated and get used to each other. But there’s no better way to get ready than to play in the games, so we’re all looking forward to it.”

MVP Steph Curry is not completely comfortable with playing a game so soon after opening camp, but as a seven-year veteran he has an idea of what to expect.

“Honestly, it is a little quick because training camp’s usually where you can get your legs underneath you and find your full rhythm,” he said. “But I’m sure adrenaline, competitiveness and just how much fun game-type atmospheres are will kick in tomorrow. And we’ll flow pretty smooth into it."
