Return uncertain, Curry making progress Warriors ‘looking for'

OAKLAND – Though he completed a second consecutive day of light shooting, Stephen Curry’s return to the Warriors remains very much indefinite, coach Steve Kerr said late Tuesday afternoon.

“He’s doing pretty well, going through the rehab process and he’s making the improvement that we’re looking for,” Kerr said in his pregame news conference ahead of Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals against Portland.

“But he hasn’t been on the floor with the team at this point. Hopefully that will come. I don’t know when, though.”

Curry did not participate in the morning shootaround, waiting until his teammates cleared the floor before beginning a session behind the privacy of a massive blue curtain that bisects the gym floor at the team’s downtown Oakland facility.

Curry sustained a medial collateral ligament (MCL) sprain in Game 4 of the first-round playoff series against Houston on April 24. He diagnosed the next day, after which general manager Bob Myers projected Curry would miss at least two-weeks.

Kerr indicated that Curry’s return would be based not on the status of the series but strictly on his health and conditioning.

“We’re going want to see him get up and down the floor,” Kerr said.

“It’s really more what the training staff tells us. Is he at risk of hurting it further? If he’s not and he’s at 80, 90 percent, and they say he can play and we’re not risking anything, then we’ll let him play.”
