SANTA CLARA – The 49ers on Friday waived quarterback Dylan Thompson and running back Kendall Gaskins from the team’s 90-man roster to make room for a 23-player rookie class.

The 49ers had 11 draft draft picks last week. The club announced signed contracts for defensive linemen DeForest Buckner and Ronald Blair, offensive linemen John Theus and Fahn Cooper, quarterback Jeff Driskel, running back Kelvin Taylor, wide receiver Aaron Burbridge, and cornerbacks Rashard Robinson and Prince Charles Iworah.

As CSNBayArea.com previously reported, the 49ers also waived guard Jordan Devey and kicker Corey Acosta.

Thompson signed with the 49ers last year as an undrafted rookie from South Carolina. After opening the season on the practice squad, he was promoted to the active roster for the final seven weeks when Colin Kaepernick opted for season-ending shoulder surgery. The 49ers have four quarterbacks on their roster with the selection of Louisiana Tech's Jeff Driskel in the sixth round to join Blaine Gabbert, Colin Kaepernick and Thad Lewis.

Gaskins also began the season on the practice squad. He carried 16 times for 36 yards in limited action. The 49ers drafted Florida running back Kelvin Taylor in the sixth round on Saturday, prompting the team to release Gaskins.

The 49ers announced they have signed the following undrafted rookies to three-year contracts:

WR Devon Cajuste, Stanford
WR Bryce Treggs, Cal
OL Blake Muir, Baylor
OL Norman Price, Southern Mississippi
OL/DL Alex Balducci, Oregon
DL Demetrius Cherry, Arizona State
DL Darren Lake, Alabama
LB Kevin Anderson, Stanford
LB Jay Fanaika, Utah
LB Lenny Jones, Nevada
S Jered Bell, Colorado
K John Lunsford, Liberty

The 49ers’ newcomers reported Thursday for a three-day minicamp, which is scheduled to run Friday through Sunday.
