"Well, you got your fourth starter that could be a closer," Duane Kuiper said on KNBR 680 on Tuesday morning. "Nobody has mentioned that, but the point is, if you get to postseason, you're there and now you just gotta figure it out.

"I mean, they're trying to figure it out now. You can't do it now because you need every one of those guys. But with all the off days you get in postseason, you can really mix and match."
The Giants' fourth starter is Jeff Samardzija. Over his last eight outings, he is 2-2 with a 2.74 ERA.

Samardzija has not pitched in relief since 2011.
After Monday's walk-off loss to the Dodgers, the Giants are six games behind their arch-rivals in the NL West.
The Orange and Black are tied with the Cardinals for the second wild card spot -- one game behind the Mets.
"Getting there (the playoffs) is the main thing, and then once you get there, play it out and see what happens," Kuiper added. "I'm pretty confident about this team once they get there. Not so confident right now. When they get there, that's a different story."
